During the day I'm usually on the go so I always want to be sure to have anything I think I will need throughout the day for myself or my boss. When you carry a large bag it's easy to lose things inside

For this very simple DIY project I used an old cassette tape case and turned it into a business card holder or it can be used as a cell phone cradle. I drilled a hole in the bottom so the adapter to the phone charger can fit through.

TUESDAY'S TIP - Get in where you fit in

I started as a receptionist at a recording studio and worked my way up to assistant studio manager, then I moved on to an artist management firm and so on. I learned as much as I could at every position and applied it to the next position, but the bottom line is you have to start somewhere. Here are a few links to help you with your industry job search.

To take full advantage of the benefits from these sites, I would strongly suggest you obtain a membership with one.

TUESDAY'S TIP - Educate yourself

Most assistants require at least basic computer skills in word processing, spreadsheets and some knowledge of other software. The more you know the more valuable you are. Understand more about the industry you would like to be in. If it’s music, learn how to use Garage Band, or Logic, or Pro Tools. If it’s film/television, learn Final Cut Pro. If it’s fashion, learn how to sew or use a camera properly or how to use Photoshop. You get the idea. The goal is to become indispensable.  One of my best resources for learning anything tech related or how to use software programs is a website called Talk Tech America. You can thank me later LOL. Tell David I sent you :)

TUESDAY'S TIP - Networking is key

If you are still thinking about becoming a Personal Assistant, here is today's tip. Network, Network, Network! The power of networking is invaluable. Tell everyone you know what your goal is. Many PA's have obtained their job by word of mouth. Sometimes this requires rendering services for free or at a lower rate in the beginning if you have no prior experience. You can also look into doing internships if you are a student.

Here are a few resources to get you started

TUESDAY'S TIP - The Devil Wears Prada

If you have never worked as a Personal Assistant and you're thinking about becoming one, the first thing I would advise is to watch 'The Devil Wears Prada'. LBVS Yes, I am very serious! Although the movie is entertaining, it may help you realize whether or not being a PA is the right fit for you. This job can be exciting and glamorous but it can also be very demanding and unpredictable. You never really know what's going to happen from one day to the next. There's a lot more to this than getting coffee, answering phones and typing emails. Critical thinking is crucial. When you get the hang of it, being a PA can also be very rewarding, and the perks are fantastic.
